Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and The Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association (TSTDKWA) jointly organised the TSTDKWA Building Opening Ceremony cum Open Day today (7 March), providing an opportunity for members of the public to visit the newly furnished facilities, after completion of the renovation work of the Building. Free medical consultations for new clients, healthcare talks and herbal tea tasting were arranged with opportunities to experience Chinese calligraphy, exhibitions of students’ work, and course and programme introductions staged by the University’s School of Continuing Education (SCE).

Officiating at the Opening Ceremony today were Mr Jack Chan, Acting Secretary for Home Affairs, HKSAR Government, Mr So Chung-ping, Chairman of the Executive Committee, TSTDKWA, and Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, HKBU.

In his speech, Mr Jack Chan said he was delighted to witness the tremendous joint effort by the TSTDKWA and HKBU in renovating the TSTDKWA Building with the aim of providing the community with a more advanced, well-equipped and comfortable service environment through a Chinese medicine clinic and Learning Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr So Chung-ping said that TSTDKWA is committed to serving the community and has worked closely with HKBU School of Continuing Education and School of Chinese Medicine in promoting lifelong education and public health. TSTDKWA hopes the new facilities at the Building could help further arouse students’ interest in learning and will continue to work with HKBU on nurturing talents for Hong Kong.

At the Opening Ceremony, Professor Roland Chin expressed his heartfelt gratitude to TSTDKWA for its steadfast support towards the development of HKBU in various ways over the past 20 years. TSTDKWA donated to a number of University-wide projects, such as the establishment of the “Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Scholarship”, “Service Learning Student Activities Fund”, and “Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Admission Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding South and South East Asian Ethnic Minority Students”, as well as the development of the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, and the School of Chinese Medicine’s clinical research projects, and so forth.

The six-storeyed TSTDKWA Building currently houses the HKBU Chinese Medicine Specialty Clinic and the Tsimshatsui Learning Centre operated by SCE. The clinic has seven private consultation rooms and four well-equipped treatment rooms to provide a broad spectrum of Chinese medicine services covering areas of internal diseases, pediatrics, tui na, acupuncture, ophthalmology and gynecology in addition to specialty services targeting children with autism spectrum disorder and patients with skin conditions.

Located in the same building, the SCE’s Learning Centre has 22 classrooms for the use of classroom learning and lectures, providing a wide range of programmes for members of the public to pursue further education in a variety of disciplines under a well-equipped teaching and learning environment.
