HKBU to introduce winning inventions that help you walk healthily and check balance ability easily on Thursday

浸大研發便攜式儀器分析步行姿勢和平衡指標 可用於運動醫學 獲國際發明獎 本周四分享新產品

Professor Jeffrey Cheung of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Department of Physics and his team have developed two health monitoring devices: a Portable Gait Analyzer and a Balance Scale. These HKBU inventions clinched four top prizes at the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in April 2017 including Gold medal, Gold Medal with distinction and special medals from the Romanian Association of Nonconventional Technologies.

The “Portable Gait Analyzer” can record and analyse the biomechanics of walking (i.e. gait) and other physical activities in just a few steps. It can pinpoint the gait impairment issues, the areas for improvement, footwear comfort, and therapeutic measure efficacy in unprecedented details with proven results based on clinical trials.

The “Balance Scale” is another portable device that measures an individual’s balance index, a vital health index of physical wellness. At the same time, it can also be used as a platform for exercise and training. The device can be used for fall assessment and prevention.

Both devices share simplicity, cost effectiveness and versatility thus making them appealing to both the commercial and clinical market.

Professor Cheung will introduce these two inventions and give demonstration to the media on Thursday. Details are as follows:
