HKBU praised for its care for community, employees and environment

HKBU has recently been awarded the Caring Organisation Logo by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in recognition of its commitment to caring for the community, employees, and the environment. As an awardee of the Caring Company Scheme, the University is entitled to include the Caring Organisation Logo in promotional activities and materials, from 1 March 2015 to 29 February 2016.

The University was nominated for the award by the Hong Kong S.K.H. Lok Man Alice Kwok Integrated Service Centre with whom the Faculty of Social Sciences has been collaborating as part of its Community of Practice and community engagement activities. The Centre is a partner of the Faculty’s “Building Learning Community through a Transdisciplinary Multi-layered Approach” project supported by the University’s Strategic Development Fund.

“HKBU’s Vision 2020 emphasises the importance of caring leaders and this award stands as testament to the hard work of our students, our staff, our administrators and our partners in making this vision a reality!” said Professor Adrian Bailey, Dean of Social Sciences.

Professor Atara Sivan, Associate Dean of Social Sciences, who is the project leader, said: “This is indeed a significant achievement which I am proud of and I feel obliged to our dedicated team and students who made it happen. It is another great contribution of the Faculty of Social Sciences to the University’s mission of delivering progressive whole person education.”

Other project members came from the departments of Education Studies, Physical Education, Social Work and Sociology. The project participants included HKBU students, secondary school students and older adults from two elderly centres.

The Caring Organisation Logo is presented to commend and give public recognition to organisations that demonstrate a caring spirit. Nominated organisations are judged in 18 criteria under the scopes of Caring for the Community, Caring for the Employees and Caring for the Environment.
