Chinese medicine student wins Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award

Wong Lok-tung, Year 3 student of the Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science degree programmes, was selected as an awardee of the “Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2015” and became one of the 25 science undergraduates from local universities to receive the HK$150,000 scholarship this year. In June, she will take a one-month advanced course on anatomy at the University of Glasgow in the UK to enhance her knowledge in Western medicine.

Lok-tung said: “The integration of Chinese and Western medicine treatments is becoming more and more prevalent nowadays. Chinese medicine practitioners have to acquire basic knowledge of the structural formation of the human body when administrating acupuncture and tui na, and when necessary, make reference to Western medical reports. She was grateful for having been assigned Professor Edwin Yu, President of Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine, as her mentor. Lok-tung hoped that she could play a role in promoting the development of Chinese medicine in the future so as to enrich public understanding on the potential value of Chinese medicine.

Organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups with support and sponsor from the Innovation and Technology Commission and HSBC, the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme aims to give outstanding undergraduates pursuing degrees in science and technology in local universities recognition as well as opportunities to broaden their horizons and enhance their industry experience. It is hoped that the scheme will nurture their passion, bolster their commitment to science and technology and encourage them to engage in related industries in the future.
