SCM research student receives Webster Jee Young Investigator Award

中醫藥學院博士研究生獲Webster Jee青年學者獎

Mr Liang Chao, PhD student of the School of Chinese Medicine was recently presented the Webster Jee Young Investigator Award at the International Chinese Musculoskeletal Research Society – Orthopaedic Research Society membership meeting held in Las Vegas for his outstanding research on bone and joint diseases.

The award-winning paper, entitled “Aptamer-functionalised delivery system for osteogenic siRNAs to achieve osteoblast-specific RNA interference for bone anabolic therapy”, introduced an aptamer-functionalised lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) delivery system to achieve accumulation of osteogenic siRNAs in osteoblasts which promotes bone formation in animal models with established osteoporosis. This study is expected to contribute to a better understanding of cellular level delivery of osteogenic siRNAs and clinical translation of RNA interference strategy in skeletal metabolic disease with impaired bone formation.

The Webster Jee Young Investigator Award is presented to awardees at the meetings of American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, Orthopaedic Research Society or the International Conference on Osteoporosis and Bone Research with the aim of recognising the achievement of young outstanding researchers.

中醫藥學院博士研究生梁超同學最近出席在美國拉斯維加斯舉行的國際華人骨科研究大會──美國骨科研究學會會員會議,並獲頒Webster Jee青年學者獎,表揚他在骨與關節疾病研究方面的優秀表現。

梁同學的得獎研究論文為〈適配子功能化的成骨小核酸納米材料對骨形成能力下降疾病的治療研究〉,主要內容是開發以適配子為靶向配體的小核酸納米材料遞送系統,該遞送系統可促進成骨核酸在成骨細胞內的有效富集,進而提高骨質疏鬆動物模型的骨形成。這項研究有望實現細胞層面的成骨小核酸遞送,加速了核酸治療策略的臨床轉化。

Webster Jee青年學者獎的設立是為嘉許表現出眾的青年研究員,獎項會於美國骨礦鹽研究學會、美國骨科研究學會或國際華人骨科研究大會上頒發予得獎人。
