Two HKBU teams win Poster Prizes at global education conference

兩支浸大隊伍於高等教育國際會議奪學術海報獎

The Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) 2014 Conference was held in Hong Kong for the first time from 7 to 10 July. Two teams formed by HKBU staff and students won the best poster prize and the runner-up poster prize at the Conference.

The best poster entitled “Assessing Cross-cultural Competence in Co-curricular Programmes: A Case Study of Using ePortfolio and Institutional Rubrics”, was presented by Elaine Lam (European Studies, Year 4), Panda Wong (Translation, Year 2), and two staff members from the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning (CHTL), Dr. Theresa Kwong and Mr. Lau Fat-man. It was voted the best poster from amongst 53 entries. The study discussed how ePortfolio and institutional rubrics can serve as tools to collect evidence on student learning upon completion of year-long exchange or leadership co-curricular programmes.

Another team comprising Dr. Sam Lau, Dr. Vicky Lee, Ms. Hai Helia, Dr. Lorraine Yeung and Dr. Karen Woo from the College of International Education won the runner-up poster prize. Their poster entitled “Educating the New Tech-Driven Generation: A Case Study in Hong Kong” outlined a case study on how the College has facilitated Generation Z in developing various generic and transferrable skills through its new curriculum since 2012.

The Conference with the theme “Higher Education in a Globalized World” was cohosted by the CHTL of HKBU and the HERDSA Hong Kong Branch. Scholars from around the world gathered to explore ways to embrace the challenges and opportunities for higher education in the increasingly globalized world. Around 350 delegates from 18 countries and regions attended the event.
