Two PhD students of the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences, Tommy Chan and Zach Lee, with Dr Christy Cheung, Associate Professor of the same department, recently won a Best Paper award for their co-authored paper “Understanding Continuance Intention to Play MMOGs: An Extended IS Continuance Model” at the 2014 International Conference on e-Commerce, e-Administration, e-Society, e-Education, and e-Technology. Their research paper was one of the two selected as Best Papers from the 686 submissions this year.

The award-winning paper investigates players’ intention to continue to play massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) by integrating MMOGs-related motivations into the IS continuance model. The research model was tested on 392 online game players. The results revealed that achievement and immersion are positive and significant predictors of perceived enjoyment, while satisfaction and perceived enjoyment jointly predict continuance intention to play MMOGs
.

The three-day conference aimed to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, academicians as well as industrial professionals from all over the world to present their research results and development activities in e-commerce, e-administration, e-society, e-education and e-technology. Every year, the conference provides opportunities for delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face-to-face, to establish business and/or research relations, and to find global partners for future collaboration.
