BBA team scoops two awards at ACCA business competition

A team of four from the School of Business comprising Lily Huang (Accounting, Year 2), Vincent Qin (Applied Economics, Year 2), Grace Sun (Applied Economics, Year 2) and Felix Tang (Accounting, Year 2) participated in the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) last month. The team won the second runner-up title and the Best Budgeting Award for their brilliant preparation of financial forecasts and budgets during the competition.

The competition aims to equip students with accounting knowledge as well as business analytical and communication skills essential to prominent employers today. This year’s competition attracted 263 teams. Contestants were required to develop a business plan targeting the elderly (aged over 60) as potential customers. They took up the role of business consultants and prepared a proposal based on a two-year, HK$1-million funding plan that aimed to provide the elderly with a “shop freely and service friendly” shopping experience.

Dr. Peter Lau, Associate Dean of the School of Business, was delighted with the students' outstanding performance. He said: "I would like to thank the team's coach and advisor Mr. Man Ko, Lecturer I of the Department of Accountancy and Law, and the team’s advisor Ms. Connie Li, Lecturer II of the Department of Marketing, for their dedicated efforts and the valuable advice provided to the team during the competition."
