Cross disciplinary scholarly work scoops Best Chapter Award from e-Book publication on mobile learning

A group comprising HKBU staff members from the School of Chinese Medicine, the residential hall and the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning was awarded the Best Chapter Award by an open-access e-Book publication IAmLearning: Mobilizing and Supporting Educator Practice (https://iamlearning.pressbooks.com/).

The winning chapter, Enhancing Residential Student Leadership Training with Appropriate Augmented Reality mLearning Trail Design, is authored by Dr Kevin Yue, Dr Lisa Law, Miss Hiu Ling-chan, Ms Jade Chan, Ms Elaine Wong, Dr Theresa Kwong and Dr Eva Wong. They examined the effectiveness of adopting an augmented reality (AR) mobile learning trail within a hall tutor training programme. The programme aims at sharpening the ethical thinking skill and leadership responsibility of new hall tutors, helping them to fulfil their roles and duties as future student leaders.

Through a scenario-driven Trail of Integrity & Ethics – Hall (TIE-Hall) designed by students and staff from the residential hall, student tutors reflected that they have developed in-depth ethical thinking and realised the importance of behaving as “role models” to their peer residents. The study also demonstrated that the TIE-Hall not only fostered in participants a better and deeper understanding of ethical reasoning with integrity, but also showed sustainable effect after the programme.

This study was part of the HKBU-led project supported by the UGC Funding Scheme for Teaching & Learning Innovations entitled, “Reinforcing the Importance of Academic Integrity and Ethics in Students through Blended Learning – A Deployment of Augmented Reality Applications” (http://www.ar-learn.com).
