Physical Education student clinches bronze medal in Asian fencing championship

Timmy Chan (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 3) represented Hong Kong and won a bronze medal in the Team Saber event of the Asian Fencing Championship (under 23) held in Vietnam.

Timmy said that the team’s performance in the early stage of the competition was not satisfactory, so he and his teammates sought their coach’s guidance and changed their competition tactics and attitude. They grasped the competition rhythm at a critical moment and were able to successfully turn defeat into victory.

Timmy has not had difficulty in managing training and study up to now as he handles his schedule well. He thanked HKBU’s teachers’ timely advice and classmates’ assistance, which enables him to catch up with study progress. “I took part in an overseas competition recently which clashed with an examination, the teacher changed the date once he understood my situation. Classmates provided me with tutorials after my absence from lessons. Through their kindness, I am able to participate in competitions and train without any worries,” he said.
