Computer Science PhD student wins best paper award through international collaboration

Computer Science PhD student Jiang Jiaxin won the Best Paper Award for his paper “Parallelising Sequential Graph Computations” at the 2017 ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of Data.

The paper is the result of collaboration by Jiaxin with researchers from the University of Edinburgh, Beihang University and Washington State University. In the paper, the team suggested a model that is capable of parallelising existing sequential graph algorithms as a whole, without the need for recasting the entire algorithms into distributed models.

Jiaxin said, “I am honored to receive this award. I would like to thank the HKBU Database Group, my PhD supervisor Dr Byron Choi, and project leader Professor Fan Wenfei of the University of Edinburgh for providing me the opportunity to take part in the project with international researchers. I would also like to thank the Department for providing the excellent research environment. Through this project, I have gained invaluable experience for conducting high quality research.”

The annual ACM SIGMOD conference is a leading international forum for database researchers, practitioners, developers and users to explore cutting-edge ideas and results, and to exchange techniques, tools and experiences.

ACM SIGMOD
