HKBU team wins first runner-up title in Inter-collegiate Debate Competition

HKBU debate team gained the first runner-up title in the Hong Kong Inter-collegiate Debate Competition 2017 co-organised by RTHK and the Hong Kong Federation of Students. Addison Chu (Broadcast Journalism, Year 2) won the Best Debater Award for his outstanding performance.
The motion in the final round of the contest was: “The next government term should re-launch political reform”, with HKBU speaking in favour and HKU against. Ceci Wu, President of the team and Broadcast Journalism Year 2 student, said team members had been active in taking part in various contests over the past year and had invited senior students to help them in their training. This build-up improved their skills significantly. Coming from different schools and departments, and with different political standpoints, team members thoroughly studied the motion and analysed it from different angles in order to enhance their debating skills.
She expressed the team’s gratitude to the Office of Student Affairs and the HKBU Students’ Union for their kind support in enabling team members to devote themselves fully to preparing for the competition and thereby attaining the excellent results.
