HKBU men’s basketball team grabs first runner-up title in intervarsity competition


HKBU men’s basketball team clinched the first runner-up spot in an intervarsity competition, after a lapse of 10 years.
Captain of the team Lau Ka-yin was encouraged by the performance, the best result in recent years. He said that some new members and the new assistant coach come from Hong Kong basketball first division teams. The new recruits have solid playing skills while the later introduced a series of professional training programmes which not only helped improve the team members’ stamina and skill level, but also raised their understanding of tactics and their sense of belonging.     
The team’s coach and Lecturer of the Department of Physical Education Mr Warman Cheng will retire this year. Ka-yin said the team would like to proceed to the final round of the intervarsity competition as a retirement gift for him. Therefore, the team have chosen “back to honor” as this year’s mission. On the competition day, members of the HKBU community wore blue T-shirts, the colour of HKBU, emblazoned with this slogan. Ka-yin said, “Hundreds of HKBU teachers, staff, students and team members’ friends cheered us on. It was like looking at the blue sea; this boosted the team’s morale significantly. We sincerely thank them for their support.”
The team will continue to devote themselves to training. They aim to participate in more competitions so that new members can gain more experience and attain excellent result again.  

球隊教練、體育學系講師鄭偉明先生今年退休,家賢表示,球隊希望以再次打入總決賽作為他的退休禮物。他們今年以「back to honor」為目標,更特別將這個目標印在藍色(浸大象徵顏色)的襯衣,讓浸大社群人士於比賽當日穿上。他說:「當日有數以百計的大學教職員、同學及球員親友到場打氣,在一片藍海下,球隊士氣大振,我們衷心感謝他們的支持。」
