HKBU to present Distinguished Alumni Award to Delia Chan, Poon Po-chiu, Philp Tsai and Sunny Wong

浸大公佈第四屆傑出校友獎 嘉許陳維湘、潘步釗、蔡永忠與王克勤校友

HKBU announced it will present its fourth Distinguished Alumni Award to four outstanding alumni; they are Ms Delia Chan (Secretarial Management, Chinese Medicine), Dr Poon Po-chiu (Chinese Language and Literature), Mr Philip Tsai (Accounting) and Mr Sunny Wong (Business Management).
 
The Award has been established not only to recognise the outstanding business, professional or scholastic achievements of the awardees and their services and contributions to the University and society, but also to motivate current students to learn from their valuable experience and success. An award presentation ceremony will be held in March.
 
This year, the Selection Committee for the award was chaired by Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, and members included Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, Ms Viola Man, Executive Director of PuraPharm Corporation Limited, Ms Quince Chong, Chief Corporate Development Officer of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, and Dr David Mong, Chairman and Group CEO of Shun Hing Group.
 
 
Brief introduction of Distinguished Alumni Award recipients
 
Ms Delia Chan (Secretarial Management, Chinese Medicine)
 
Ms Delia Chan is a successful entrepreneur and a committed educator. She began her career in the textile and garment industry after completing Secretarial and Managerial Studies at Hong Kong Baptist College in 1971. She went on to establish several garment firms with her late husband, and is currently Managing Director of Famous Horse Holdings Limited which holds a number of companies in various fields. Ms Chan obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science (Chinese Medicine) jointly offered by HKBU and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in 2005, and a Master of Chinese Medicine at HKBU in 2008.
 
Ms Chan has made significant contributions to the economic and social development of both Hong Kong and the Mainland. Apart from making generous donations in support of healthcare services, education, infrastructure and cultural projects in Hong Kong and on the Mainland, Ms Chan is also involved in various public and social service activities. She has funded the building of primary and secondary schools as well as a building in Wuyi University, provided subsidies to students, and set up an education fund and a capital works fund for Wuyi University. In addition, Ms Chan has also sponsored the Taishan Culture and Art Festival and donated to support the construction of other municipal and public facilities in Jiangmen, including the Wuyi Huaqiao Plaza, bridges, roads and water conservation facilities.
 
Her enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge drives her to learn from many different areas including Chinese Medicine, religion, visual arts, design, drawing and calligraphy. She has a deep appreciation of the value and importance of lifelong learning and education for the new generation. Ms Chan cares deeply about the development of her alma mater. Since 2008, she has made generous donations to HKBU, in support of the Centre for Cancer and Inflammation Research, Campus Expansion Plan, scholarships, Chinese medicine research, Daniel and Kitty Tse Visiting Professorship Scheme, and also clinical activities for the public to celebrate the 60th anniversary of HKBU. She is Honorary Permanent President and a member of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation and was conferred an Honorary University Fellowship by HKBU in 2012.
 
Dr Poon Po-chiu (Chinese Language and Literature)
 
Dr Poon Po-chiu is Principal of Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long). He graduated from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Hong Kong Baptist College in 1988 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at the College in 1991. He then attained a Master’s degree in Arts at Sun Yat-sen University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also gained his Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from The University of Hong Kong in 1996 and 2002 respectively. 
 
Over the years, Dr Poon has been devoted to language and literature education and has led courses as well as the development and reform of public examinations. He has held various public service positions for the culture and education sectors and was chairmen and member of different universities’ course advisory committees. Currently, he is Member of Curriculum Development Council of the Education Bureau, Member of Public Libraries Advisory Committee and Member of Cantonese Opera Development Fund Advisory Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Committee on Chinese Language Education and Chairman of Ad Hoc Committee on Sixth Form Chinese Literature of the Curriculum Development Council; Chairman of Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Chinese Literature Subject Committee and Deputy Chairman of Special Committee on Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority; Member of Standing Committee on Language Education and Research; and Arts Advisor of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, among others.
 
Dr Poon is keen on creative writing. He has written 15 books and many essays, some of which were shortlisted for inclusion in anthologies printed by local and overseas publishing houses and as teaching material for courses of secondary schools and universities. So far, he has delivered over 100 speeches with topics covering creative writing, literature appreciation, teachers’ professional development and Chinese opera. He is Member of China Writers Association and was invited as judge for Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese, Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition and Youth Literary Awards. He is currently Advisor of Hong Kong Literature Promotion Platform of Hong Kong Baptist University. 
 
Mr Philip Tsai (Accounting)
 
A graduate from the Department of Accounting of Hong Kong Baptist College in 1981, Mr Philip Tsai has more than 35 years of experience in planning and managing audits for Hong Kong and multinational corporations and is currently Chairman of Deloitte China. 
 
Mr Tsai is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW). He is actively involved in the accounting profession and also contributes significantly to various government, community and social services. He is Past President of the HKICPA, Non-Executive Director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, Director of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, the Urban Renewal Fund Limited, and Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, Advisor of The Ombudsman, Hong Kong, and also Member of the Hong Kong Committee of the ICAEW Hong Kong Chapter, the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, the Women’s Commission, the Registration Committee of the Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange, the 3RS Committee of the Hong Kong Airport Authority, Share Registrars’ Disciplinary Committee of the Securities and Futures Commission, as well as the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Services of the Civil Service Bureau of the HKSAR Government. He is also Deputy Chairman and Director of the Hong Kong Red Cross, Chairman of the Hospital Governing Committee of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Services, Chairman of the Governing Sub-committee of the Hong Kong Bone Marrow Donor Registry, and Member of the Dress Casual Day Organising Committee of the Community Chest.
 
Mr Tsai spares no effort in serving the education sector. He is External Advisor of the Department of Accountancy and Law of Hong Kong Baptist University, Adjunct Professor of City University of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Accounting and Finance and Member of the Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Business of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Trustee of the Staff Superannuation Scheme and Member of the Advisory Board on Accounting Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Member of the Institutional Advancement and Outreach Committee of the University Council of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
 
Mr Sunny Wong (Business Management)
 
Mr Sunny Wong is Executive Director of Tibet Water Resources Limited, a listed company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He graduated from the Department of Business Management of Hong Kong Baptist College in 1978 and obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Bath University in 2001. 
 
Mr Wong has more than 30 years of successful experience in the fast-moving consumer goods industry in China, in which 25 years were gained in the beer market working for top international beer companies including Carlsberg and Bass Brewers. During 2011 and 2014, he was Chairman of Carlsberg Greater China. Apart from his role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carlsberg from 2006 to 2014, Mr Wong was also the chief of mergers and acquisitions team responsible for the company’s long-term development in China. Since 2002, the team has succeeded in acquiring 59 breweries in 12 provinces, increasing the production plants to 60 with a total workforce of 15,000. With his outstanding leadership and the efforts of Mr Wong and his team, the company’s local regional brands held the highest or second highest market share position in these provinces with strong distribution network, and the Carlsberg brand became the second largest in the international premium segment in China’s beer market.
 
Since 2009, Mr Wong has been actively delivering talks on various leadership topics to government and business institutions, universities and secondary schools in Hong Kong. He is now a mentor of students and graduates of some local universities. He cares greatly about his alma mater and is currently Honorary Director and member of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation as well as Programme Advisor of the Master of Science in Global Marketing Management Programme of the School of Business. He also serves as Member of the Advisory Board of Master of Science in Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour Programme of Lingnan University and was recently appointed as Adjunct Professor of the School of Business of Hang Seng Management College and Feng Chia University in Taiwan.
 

浸會大學公佈第四屆「傑出校友獎」得獎名單,得主是陳維湘女士(秘書管理、中醫學)、潘步釗博士(中國語言文學)、蔡永忠先生(會計學)和王克勤先生(工商管理)。
 
「傑出校友獎」旨在表揚優秀校友的卓越商業、專業或學術成就,以及他們對浸大和社會的服務和貢獻,並藉此鼓勵學生,從得獎人的經驗及成就中學習。本屆傑出校友獎的頒獎禮將於下月舉行。
 
今屆「傑出校友獎」的評審委員會主席是浸大校董會暨諮議會主席鄭恩基先生,成員包括浸大校長錢大康教授、培力控股有限公司執行董事陳文綺慧女士、中華電力有限公司企業發展總裁莊偉茵女士,以及信興集團主席兼行政總裁蒙德揚博士。
 
第四屆傑出校友獎得主簡介
 
陳維湘女士(秘書管理、中醫學)
 
陳維湘女士是成功的企業家和教育家。1971年,她於浸會學院完成秘書管理課程後投身紡織業。後來她與先夫婿一起創辦數家製衣廠,現為名駒集團有限公司董事長,旗下有多間企業,涉及不同行業。陳女士於2005年取得浸大與澳洲皇家墨爾本理工大學合辦的健康科學(中醫)學士,2008年取得浸大中醫學碩士學位。
 
陳女士對香港社會及內地的經濟發展貢獻良多。除捐助中港兩地的教育事業、醫療衛生、基建及文化項目外,陳女士更投身社會服務,先後捐建小學、中學、五邑大學一幢建築物、提供助學金,以及協助五邑大學設立教育基金及建設基金。此外,陳女士又出資舉辦台山文化藝術節,以及參與捐建江門市的五邑華僑廣場、橋樑、道路、水利工程和其他公共設施。
 
陳女士對追求知識的信念及熱誠,驅使她鑽研不同範疇的科目,包括中醫、宗教、視覺藝術、設計、繪畫及書法,以及對終身學習及新一代的教育特別重視。她關心母校的發展,自2008年起先後捐款以資助中醫藥學院的癌症諮詢與研究中心、校園拓展計劃、獎學金、中醫藥研究基金、謝志偉伉儷客座教授計劃以及60周年校慶中醫診症服務等。她現為香港浸會大學基金永遠名譽會長及校友委員會成員。2012年,陳女士獲浸大頒發榮譽大學院士榮銜。
 
潘步釗博士(中國語言文學)
 
潘步釗博士是裘錦秋中學(元朗)校長。他1988年畢業於浸會學院中國語言文學系,1991年獲學院文學士學位,繼而取得中山大學文學碩士學位和香港中文大學教育文憑,並分別於1996及2002年取得香港大學哲學碩士和哲學博士學位。
 
潘博士多年來熱心語文及文學教育,參與及領導課程、公開試考評模式的發展和改革,擔任多項文化及教育公職,並擔任不同大學的課程顧問委員會主席或委員。他現任教育局課程發展議會委員、公共圖書館諮詢委員會委員、粵劇發展基金顧問委員會委員等公職,曾任課程發展議會中國語文教育委員會主席及中六中國文學課程專責委員會主席、考評局預科中國文學科目委員會主席及中國語文科專責委員會副主席、語文教育及研究常務委員會委員、香港藝術發展局藝術顧問等。
 
潘博士熱衷於文學創作,著作十分豐富,包括《今夜巴黎看不見日落》、《方寸之間》、《邯鄲記》、《不老的叮嚀》等15種。他的作品入選香港境內外不同出版社的詩文選集,而多篇散文為中學教科書收錄作為範文,亦有個別大學課程選作教材,教育局用作單元設計或擬題材料。潘博士多年來主講超過100場文學創作、文學賞析、語文教育、教師培訓及中國戲曲的專題講座或研討會。他是中國作家協會會員,曾歷任多屆中文文學創作獎、大學文學獎及青年文學獎評判,現為香港浸會大學「香港文學推廣平台」顧問。
 
蔡永忠先生(會計學)
 
蔡永忠先生1981年畢業於浸會學院會計系,現為德勤中國主席,擁有逾35年為本地和跨國集團提供審計規劃及管理服務的豐富經驗。
 
蔡先生現為香港會計師公會與英國特許公認會計師公會的資深會員,以及英格蘭與威爾士特許會計師公會會員。他積極參與註冊會計師行業的發展,並為政府、社區和社會服務盡心盡力。他是前香港會計師公會會長、強制性公積金計劃管理局非執行董事、西九文化區管理局董事、市區更新基金有限公司董事、香港資優教育學院董事、申訴專員顧問、英格蘭與威爾士特許會計師公會香港分會委員會成員、外匯基金諮詢委員會成員、婦女事務委員會成員、香港金銀業貿易場註冊委員會成員、香港機場管理局三跑道系統及工程委員會成員、證券及期貨事務監察委員會股份登記機構紀律委員會委員及公務員事務局紀律人員薪俸及服務條件常務委員會委員。他現任香港紅十字會副主席兼總監、香港紅十字會輸血服務中心醫院管治委員會主席、香港骨髓捐贈者資料庫管治分會主席,以及香港公益金便服日籌劃委員會成員。
 
蔡先生亦熱衷扶掖後輩,致力為教育界服務,現為浸會大學會計及法律系校外顧問、香港城市大學兼任教授、香港理工大學會計及金融學院顧問委員會主席、香港理工大學工商管理學學院顧問委員會成員、香港中文大學教職員公積金計劃信託人及會計研究顧問委員會成員,以及香港科技大學大學拓展委員會成員。
 
王克勤先生(工商管理)
 
王克勤先生現任在本港上市的西藏水資源有限公司執行董事。他1978年畢業於浸會學院工商管理系,並於2001年取得英國巴斯大學工商管理碩士學位。
 
王先生在中國的快速消費品市場具有逾30年的成功經驗,其中25年於國際著名啤酒公司如嘉士伯與巴斯啤酒廠任職。他於2011至2014年擔任嘉士伯大中華區主席。在2006至2014年就任主席及總裁期間,王先生亦是公司兼併及收購團隊的主要領導,負責制定長遠的中國市場發展戰略。自2002年起,他的團隊於12個省市成功收購59間啤酒廠,令集團在中國的啤酒廠數目增至60間,員工總數達15,000人。憑藉卓越的領導力,王先生帶領公司的商務團隊,令旗下的本地區域性品牌於當地市場佔有第一或第二地位,具有強大的銷售網絡,並使嘉士伯品牌成為中國啤酒市場第二大國際高檔啤酒。
 
自2009年起,王先生一直於政府及商業機構、大專院校及中學,以企業領導為題主講座談會,並於不同大學擔任學生導師。他十分關愛母校,現為香港浸會大學基金榮譽會董及校友委員會成員,工商管理學院環球市場管理學碩士課程顧問。他同時亦為嶺南大學人力資源管理及組織行為學碩士課程諮詢委員會成員,最近更分別獲恒生管理學院商學院及台灣逢甲大學委任為特邀教授。
