Physics Nobel Laureate speaks at HKBU distinguished lecture
The Nobel Prize recipient in Physics 2016 Professor J Michael Kosterlitz shared with the HKBU community his scientific breakthroughs and research insights at a distinguished lecture organised by the Department of Physics on 16 January. More than 250 staff, students and alumni from local universities and secondary schools attended the lecture.
Professor Kosterlitz spoke on “Topological Defects and Phase Transitions”, sharing how he, together with the joint recipient of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics Professor David Thouless, discovered the KT theory of transitions driven by topological defects in the two-dimensional world. Professor Kosterlitz encouraged staff and students to explore many more possibilities in research and development.
