Mathematics scholar recognised for Highly Cited Research by international journal

數學系學者榮獲最高論文引用奬

An innovative research paper by Dr Liu Hongyu, Associate Professor of the Department of Mathematics, has been honoured as Highly Cited Research by the international publication Journal des Mathematiques Pures et Appliquees
 
The paper entitled “Enhanced near-cloak by FSH lining” was one of the five mostly highly cited papers published in the journal from 2014 to mid 2016. 
 
In his research, Dr Liu says the transformation-optics invisibility cloaking has practical importance but the blueprints for ideal cloaks make use of singular materials, which pose severe difficulties to practical realisation and theoretical analysis. To avoid the singular structures, Dr Liu’s research developed a novel “near-cloaks by non-singular cloaking materials” making use of an elaborately designed FSH-layer lining which can significantly enhance the accuracy of the near-cloak with a sharply quantifying mathematical design.
 
Dr Liu was honoured to receive the award as recognition of his achievements. He added that invisibility cloaking is an emerging field of research with an enormous potential for growth. The technology could find significant application in many areas of science and technology, such as radar and sonar, medical imaging, harvesting solar energy and earthquake research.
 
In addition, Dr Liu has been invited to join the Editorial Board of the renowned journal, Inverse Problems and Imaging, with effect from 1 January 2017 for a three-year term. 

數學系副教授劉宏宇博士憑著論文「以FSH層作襯裡的增強型隱形技術」,獲國際學術期刊《純數學與應用數學》頒發最高論文引用獎

在2014至2016年年中,上述論文為該雜誌首五項最多人引用的論文之一。劉博士的研究突破了以往變換光學的隱形技術必須利用特別塗層材料的現實構造和理論分析的限制,提出了一種新穎的、近似隱形的構造,在隱形塗層和被隱形區域之間添加一個特製的FSH襯裡,大大提升近似隱形的精度,並提供一個在理論上更可行的隱形裝置構造。 

劉博士對獲頒最高論文引用獎感到非常榮幸,因為獎項反映研究成果得到業界的關注和認可。他表示,隱形塗層在許多科學和工程領域有重要應用,比如雷達,聲納,醫療成像,太陽能技術及抗震等,是一個新興、有極大的發展潛力的研究領域。

另外,劉博士獲國際權威期刊《逆問題與成像》邀請擔任編輯委員會成員,任期由本年1月1日開始,為期三年。
