Communication students win third prize in innovation and entrepreneur contest

A team of School of Communication students defeated more than 70 university teams and won the third prize in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for University Students of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
Jessie Kwok, Jenny Zhang (Financial Journalism, Year 2) and Molly Mok (Master of Fine Arts in Film, Television and Digital Media) made up the team which had a catchy name, “LeDo ADs”. Their award-winning proposal focused on how to turn empty spaces into cost-effective ones on which small and medium-sized enterprises with tight budgets can place their advertisements to promote their services and products.
The team is very pleased to have won the award because members were under great pressure during the competition. Jessie said that they had only four days between receiving the notice that they were finalists and presenting their proposal to the panel of judges. In between they had to take part in various sharing sessions arranged by the competition organisers. It was also a great challenge for the team to face their competitors who were from elite universities in Mainland China, such as Peking University, Tsing Hua University and Fu Dan University.
Jessie attributed their success to the lively style of their presentation, and also the real-life examples they used in their proposal. They would also like to thank HKBU’s Knowledge Transfer Office for providing them with training in writing and presentation skills.
