Science fresh graduate wins HKIE Best Paper on Materials 2016

HKBU Science fresh graduate Martin Ma Lik-kuen won the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Materials Division: Best Paper on Materials 2016 (undergraduate category) for his final year project entitled Flexible Solar Cell.

In the study, Martin looked at the effect of adding different chemical additives to optimise the performance of organic solar cells. He believed that the use of simple language in explaining complicated scientific theory was the determining factor for him to win the award. He also expressed his gratitude to his project supervisor and Associate Head of the Department of Physics, Professor So Shu-kong for his inspiring advice, support, and his positive impact on Martin’s attitude to learning and research.

Martin graduated with a First Class Honours degree in the Bachelor of Science in Green Energy Science at HKBU this year. Professor So said that Martin had been active in the academic arena during his studies at HKBU. Martin was invited to participate in the World Energy Engineering Congress 2014 in the US. In 2015, Martin joined the HKBU Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship where he worked with Professor So’s research team and started his first research project on organic solar cells.

The award presentation ceremony will be held in April 2017.
