Marketing scholar Dr Wu Wei-ping receives Best Full Paper Award at British Academy of Management annual conference

Dr Wu Wei-ping, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing, School of Business, was recently awarded the Best Full Paper Award for his distinguished co-authored paper entitled “Information sharing and firm performance: the mediating roles of marketing and managerial capabilities” at the annual conference of the British Academy of Management (BAM) held at Newcastle University in the UK.

The award-winning paper was co-authored by Dr Wu with Professor Marie McHugh, Dean of Ulster University Business School, UK; Professor Paul Humphreys, Director of Business and Management Research Institute of Ulster University Business School, UK; and Dr Frank Weingarten, Associate Professor, Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Sciences, ESADE Business School in Spain.

Based on a sample of 156 Chinese manufacturing firms, the study contributes to existing knowledge by confirming that there is a positive information-sharing-performance correlation to managerial and marketing capabilities. The paper has implications for management, suggesting that manufacturers should engage in reliable information sharing with their key suppliers in order to achieve operational efficiency in reaching target customers. Internally, it is advisable for senior managers to facilitate the development of their subordinates so as to encourage teamwork to solve conflicts.

Dr Wu Wei-ping was delighted to receive the award and said: “I am delighted that our research efforts have been recognised by fellow researchers at the British Academy of Management. This award is a recognition of our research strength, but more importantly, it highlights the value of international collaborations in academic circles. The award has also enhanced the image of HKBU internationally, in particular, within the management research community. This would not have been possible without the support of HKBU and the School of Business.”

BAM is a leading authority in the academic field of management. The BAM annual conference, now in its 30th year, is one of the most prestigious international events for business and management scholars.
