Journalism student awarded enterprise scholarship

新聞系學生撰文拍片闡釋追尋夢想 勇奪企業獎學金

Rondo Mak (Broadcast Journalism, Year 4) won the Uniqlo Scholarship with an article he wrote followed by a short film about the pursuit of his dream. Apart from providing financial support, the Scholarship also offered him a valuable opportunity to visit the headquarters and flagship shops of Uniqlo in Japan where he learnt the operations and structure of an international company.
 
Rondo feels honoured and exited to be awarded and believes that his hard work in producing the short film and excellent performance in the interview were the factors that determined his success in winning the scholarship. “In the three-minute short film, I explained how I pursue my dream in the media industry. Besides writing the voice over, I paid much effort in editing the film and designing various scenes to make the film meaningful,” he said. 
 
During the five-day Japan trip, Rondo visited flagship stores and the headquarters of Uniqlo. He participated in a sharing meeting with the company's top management in which he learnt the operations of a large-scale company. He also had a valuable opportunity to talk with its founder Mr Yanai Tadashi who inspired him to make his dream come true. 
 
“As his small clothing retail shop developed into an international top four clothing retail chain, Mr Yanai Tadashi persisted in pursuing his dream. Apart from having a healthy self-confidence intact to achieve his goal, he sets an annual theme for the company’s development after discussion with management; this has taught me that I should review myself and adjust development direction in a timely fashion when necessary.” 

麥朗謙(廣播新聞四年級)憑著撰文及拍攝短片,闡釋如何追尋夢想,獲Uniqlo頒發獎學金,並到該公司在日本的旗艦店及總部交流,了解大型企業運作理念及制度。
 
朗謙對獲頒獎學金感到榮幸及高興,並相信主要原因是用心拍攝短片,以及在面試時表現出色。「在三分鐘的短片中,我說明自己希望在媒體行業中實踐夢想。除了旁白外,畫面剪裁及設計等,我都花了不少心思。」
 
朗謙還獲安排到日本五日,參觀企業總部及旗艦店,並與該公司管理層交流,從而了解大型企業的運作模式。他更與創辦人柳井正先生交談,獲啟發敢於追夢。「柳井正先生能夠將一間小小服裝零售店,發展成全球第四大的服裝品牌,只因他一直有自信,並堅持實踐夢想。他又會與管理層為公司定下每年的目標口號,讓我明白發展過程中,要不時自我檢討及調整策略。」
