HKBU hosts international Chinese medicine meeting-cum-summit

浸大舉辦中醫藥國際會議暨高峰論壇

The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) is hosting “The 5th Annual Meeting of GP-TCM Research Association-cum-Summit on Compendium of Materia Medica and Innovative Drug Discovery in Chinese Medicine” in collaboration with the GP-TCM Research Association and TCM Pharmaceutical Analysis Specialty Committee of WFCMS on 9 and 10 August on HKBU campus. The event’s main objectives are to promote the sharing of good practices in TCM R&D and evidence-based research on TCM, and to explore new strategies for and approaches to new drug discovery and standardisation of Chinese materia medica.
   
A major international event in the field of Chinese medicine in the academic arena, the two-day Meeting-cum-Summit features talks by 58 top scholars and experts from 15 countries and regions, including the US, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, India, Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong. Covering a wide spectrum of topics ranging from quality control, pharmacology and toxicology, regulatory matters and standardisation, clinical studies, acupuncture, the Compendium of Materia Medica, to new drug discovery, the event has attracted more than 150 participants comprising scholars, scientists, teachers and students in Chinese medicine as well as representatives from research institutions from various countries and districts.  Through the enlightening talks, the audience was able to update themselves with the latest research findings and learn more about the potential and future direction of research in the field of Chinese medicine.

The Opening Cermeony was officiated by Professor Sophia Chan, Under Secretary for Food and Health, HKSAR Government; Dr Constance Chan, Director of Health, HKSAR Government; Ms Annie Choi, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, HKSAR Government; Professor Xiao Shiying, Vice Director General of China National Centre for Biotechnology Development, Ministry of Science and Technology, The People’s Republic of China; Professor Albert Chan, Chairman of Academic Committee, Sun Yat-Sen University; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research & Development), HKBU; Mr Abraham Chan, Chairman, PuraPharm Corporation Limited; Ms Chow Ying, China Life Science Sales Director of The Laboratory Solutions Sales, Agilent Technologies (China) Co, Ltd; Miss Agnes Wong, Vice-President, HKBU Century Club; Professor Guo Dean, President, GP-TCM Research Association; and Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU.
   
In his speech, Professor Lu Aiping said that in view of the increasing popularity of Chinese medicine and the growing recognition of its therapeutic benefits worldwide, evidence-based CM research is of utmost importance in advancing its development and incorporating it into mainstream healthcare systems. He thanked both the Ministry of Science and Technology and the HKSAR Government for their staunch support throughout the years of the work in Chinese medicine as well as their ardent support for this event which he believed will inspire the audience to conduct more and better research in the years to come.

A Book Launch Ceremony of “An Illustrated Chinese Materia Medica in Hong Kong” was held at the Opening Ceremony. The book, which is the fruit of a project led by Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, Associate Dean of SCM, was funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission and sponsored by Eu Yan Sang (HK) Limited, with Professor Zhao as chief editor. In addition, there was a poster presentation of abstracts of academic papers at the event and five Best Poster Awards and six Travel Awards will be presented to the winners at the Closing Ceremony scheduled for 10 August.

The Meeting-cum-Summit was organised to celebrate the 60th anniversary of HKBU with the support from the Institute of Creativity of HKBU, and with the PuraPharm Corporation Limited, Agilent Technologies, Qingfeng Pharmaceutical Group, Hung Hin Shiu Charitable Foundation and HKBU Century Club as the sponsoring bodies.

為促進中醫藥規範研究及循證醫學研究的成果分享,以及探索創新藥物及中藥標準化的新策略和未來路向,中醫藥學院與「中醫藥規範研究學會」及「世界中醫藥學會聯合會中藥分析專業委員會」攜手合作,於今明兩天在校園舉辦「中醫藥規範研究學會第五屆年會暨《本草綱目》與中藥創新藥物研發高峰論壇」。

為期兩天的會議暨高峰論壇是國際中醫藥學術界的盛事,邀得來自美國、英國、德國、荷蘭、比利時、捷克、澳洲、俄羅斯、日本、南韓、印度、內地、台灣、澳門及香港等15個國家和地區的58名專家學者發表學術演講,講座內容涵蓋中醫藥的質量控制、藥理及毒理學、監管事項和標準化、臨床研究、針灸、《本草綱目》及創新藥物研發等。會議吸引了逾150位從海內外前來參加的人士,包括從事中醫藥研究的學者和科學家,以及中醫、中藥師生和科研機構代表,他們在講座中除了得悉最新的研究成果外,也加深了解中醫藥研究的潛力和路向,從中獲得不少啟迪。

會議暨高峰論壇開幕典禮由香港特區政府食物及衞生局副局長陳肇始教授、衞生署署長陳漢儀醫生、創新科技署署長蔡淑嫻女士、國家科學技術部中國生物技術發展中心副主任肖詩鷹教授、中山大學學術委員會主任陳新滋教授、香港浸會大學副校長(研究及拓展)黃偉國教授、培力控股有限公司主席陳宇齡先生、安捷倫科技中國區實驗室解決方案生命科學銷售總經理趙影女士、香港浸會大學尚志會副會長王麗珍小姐、中醫藥規範研究學會會長果德安教授和香港浸會大學中醫藥學院院長呂愛平教授聯合主持。

呂愛平教授在致辭時表示,隨著中醫藥的療效日漸得到國際社會的肯定,中醫藥循證醫學研究是促進中醫藥進一步發展及加快其被納入主流醫療系統的關鍵。呂教授感謝國家科學技術部及香港特區政府多年來對中醫藥發展的支持,並對舉辦是次會議暨高峰論壇給予鼎力支持,他相信講者的真知灼見必定能夠啟發參加者日後作出更多更好的中醫藥研究。

大會於開幕典禮上並舉行《香港中藥材圖鑑》新書發佈儀式,該書是中醫藥學院的項目,由副院長趙中振教授擔任項目負責人兼該書的主編,獲得創新科技處資助和余仁生(香港)有限公司贊助。此外,大會亦舉辦學術論文摘要壁報展覽,並將於8月10日舉行的閉幕典禮上頒發五個最佳壁報獎和六個研究生遊歷獎。

是次會議暨高峰論壇是浸大60周年校慶學術活動之一,獲得浸大創意研究院支持,培力控股有限公司、安捷倫科技、青峰醫藥集團有限公司、孔憲紹慈善基金和香港浸會大學尚志會贊助。
