School of Chinese Medicine appoints seven distinguished scholars in Chinese medicine as Honorary Professors

中醫藥學院委任七位中醫藥界翹楚為榮譽教授

The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) appointed seven distinguished scholars as Honorary Professors at its 6th Honorary Professorship Conferment Ceremony-cum-Seminar today (9 October) to recognise their significant achievements in and outstanding contribution to the field of Chinese medicine. Following the ceremony there was a seminar at which the Honorary Professors shared their expert knowledge, research findings and clinical experience with the 150-member audience which included local Chinese medicine practitioners, teachers, students and alumni of SCM.
 
The seven distinguished scholars are: Professor Chao Enxiang, National TCM Master, Chief Physician of China-Japan Friendship Hospital; Professor Chen Dacan (in absentia), President of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Provincial Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; Professor Chen Xiangmei (in absentia), Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor and Chief Physician of Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital; Professor Liu Baoyan, Chief Researcher of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; Professor Robert Verpoorte, Emeritus Professor of Natural Products Laboratory, Institute of Biology, Leiden University, The Netherlands; Professor Wang Qi, National TCM Master, Tenured Professor of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine; and Professor Yang Shilin, Director of National Engineering Research Center for Manufacturing Technology of TCM Solid Preparation and Chief Professor of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), praised the Honorary Professors, saying they are leaders in the field of Chinese medicine, excellent role models for teachers and students of SCM, and exemplary members of the community. With their profound knowledge, outstanding achievements in research and excellent clinical skills, they have set a very high standard for the faculty and students of SCM. He expressed the hope that the School could build a close relationship with the Honorary Professors in the future, so that apart from visiting the University to enlighten and inspire faculty and students, they would also embark on collaborations with the School.
 
At the seminar, a veteran Chinese medicine expert who has been practising Chinese medicine for more than 50 years, Professor Chao Enxiang shared with the audience the ways and means to nurture Chinese medicine talents with excellent clinical skills and caring spirit during a talk entitled “My insight into ancient and modern training methods of TCM doctors” while Professor Liu Baoyan introduced how Chinese medicine experts have been taking advantage of big data and the internet to advance the development of Chinese medicine in his talk entitled “Challenge and opportunity of TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment in the Age of Big Data”. Professor Robert Verpoorte elucidated in his talk entitled “Synergy: easier to say than to prove” how a synergistic approach helps bring natural products and medicinal plants to the forefront of drug discovery. Professor Wang Qi, who has been engaged in Chinese medicine research for several decades, gave an insightful lecture entitled “Three questions that TCM clinical researchers faced and their answers” while Professor Yang Shilin spoke about one of his research projects entitled “The research and development of total pulchinenosides (TPs) as a new anti-schistosoma drug”. 

中醫藥學院今天(10月9日)舉行第六屆榮譽教授頒授典禮,委任七位著名的中醫藥學者為榮譽教授,以表彰他們在中醫藥領域的卓越成就和巨大貢獻。典禮後並舉行研討會,讓榮譽教授與出席活動的約150位本地中醫師、中醫藥學院師生和校友,分享他們的醫學知識、科研成果和臨床經驗與心得。
 
七位榮譽教授分別是國醫大師兼中日友好醫院主任醫師晁恩祥教授、廣東省中醫院、廣州中醫藥大學第二臨床醫學院兼廣東省中醫藥科學院院長陳達燦教授(未克出席)、中國工程院院士兼解放軍總醫院教授、主任醫師陳香美院士(未克出席)、中國中醫科學院首席研究員劉保延教授、荷蘭萊頓大學天然產品實驗室名譽教授Robert Verpoorte教授、國醫大師兼北京中醫藥大學終身教授王琦教授,以及中藥固體製劑製造技術國家工程研究中心主任兼江西中醫藥大學首席教授楊世林教授。
 
副校長(研究及拓展)黃偉國教授在典禮上致辭時表示,新一屆的榮譽教授都是中醫藥界的翹楚,是大學師生以至整個社會的典範和楷模,他們淵博的學問、卓越的科研成就和高超的醫術,為中醫藥學院的師生定下了高的標準。他希望榮譽教授日後能與學院建立緊密的聯繫,除了到學院講學豐富師生的知識和經驗,亦會開展其他方面的合作。
 
研討會上,行醫逾五十載的晁恩祥教授主講「古今中醫師培養方式之我見」,闡述他對培育具有精湛醫術和高尚醫德醫風的中醫人才的見解;劉保延教授以「大數據時代中醫辨證論治的機遇與挑戰」為題,介紹中醫藥專家學者如何運用大數據、互聯網等支持中醫藥的發展,更有效地發揮其優勢;Robert Verpoorte教授主講「協同:談來容易踐實難」,解釋協同作用的研究方法如何帶領天然產物和藥用植物踏入新藥發現的最前沿;王琦教授以他從事中醫藥研究達數十載的豐富經驗,就「中醫臨床研究的三個問題與出路」為題發表他的獨到見解;楊世林教授則向與會人士詳細介紹他的其中一項中藥研究「白頭翁抗血吸蟲的新藥研究及開發」。
