Dr Christy Cheung, Associate Professor of the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences, and PhD student Ms Randy Wong, recently won a Distinguished Paper Award for their co-authored paper with Dr Xiao Bo of the University of Hawaii at Manoa at the International Conference on e-Commerce, e-Administration, e-Society, e-Education, and e-Technology held in Kyoto, Japan from 8-10 September 2015.

Entitled “Fighting Online Abuse: Understanding User Acceptance of Online Reporting Functions of Social Networking Sites”, the award-winning paper investigated the factors that affect an individuals’ acceptance of online reporting functions for reporting abusive incidents under the technology acceptance framework. The research model was tested on 117 Facebook users and found that “subjective norm”, “personal innovativeness” and “perceived ease of use” influence whether they would adopt and use the online reporting functions of Facebook.
